Last week, Rachel Rowbottom the Head of Chemistry at Lancaster University School of Mathematics, came into school to deliver a STEM presentation to all of the girls in year 11.
The session was both inspiring and empowering. Rachel spoke eloquently about her journey within her own education and how even today she still feels that that there are still challenges and triumphs faced by women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Through personal anecdotes and research-backed insights, the girls gained a deeper understanding of the unique opportunities available in STEM careers and the importance of gender diversity in these fields. The presentation also focused on fostering inclusive environments where women can thrive professionally. To finish the session, Rachel introduced the concept of combinations which the girls enjoyed exploring (using pots of paint!). The girls left feeling motivated and equipped with practical advice to help them navigate their STEM journeys with confidence and resilience.
